śp. Edmund J. “Ed†Kazlauskas passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the age of 87 in St. Johnsville, NY where he has resided for many years. His passing occurred with his loving family at his side at the St.Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born on September 22, 1928 in Amsterdam, NY, a son to the late Joseph and Anna (Baltrukajtis) Kazlauskas. He attended Amsterdam schools. He honorably served our country during the Korean War, particularly from 1951 until 1953. His dedication to our country brought him overseas to Japan and Korea, and upon release from active duty Ed was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars as well as a United Nations Service Medal. Ed and the former Louella M. Mosher were united in marriage on June 13, 1970 in St. Johnsville, having recently celebrated their 46th year of a blessed union together. Ed’s work career spanned for over 38 years at the Indian Castle Thruway Restaurant, having served as Manager and he had many friends and acquaintances throughout the years. Ed’s sense of humor was so very endearing to his family and friends and he will be greatly missed. He was known to be a very accomplished hunter and fisherman. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post #168.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Louella, his children, Kay Delano and her husband Ray of Ohio, NY, Louise Gray and her husband Larry of St. Johnsville, Mary Lou Heroth and her husband Sonny of Ephratah, John Ponzi and his wife Cindy of Texas, and his son–in–law, Gene Colorito of St. Johnsville. Forever in the memory of the family are Ed’s children who preceded him in death, including Marie Colorito, David Mosher, and Mary Ann Ponzi. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Tim, Nick, Kyle, Larry, Robin, Dwayne, Tammy, Anita, Gina, John, Jr., Mary Ann, Joe, and Chris; 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and a cousin. In addition to his children and parents, Ed was also predeceased by his sister, Sophie and two brothers, Stan and Bill.
A Catholic Religious Prayer Service will be held on Thursday June 23, 2016 at 6:00 PM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY with Father Rafael Dadello officiating. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the funeral home, prior to the prayer service from 4 until 6 PM on Thursday.
Members of the St. Johnsville American Legion Post are asked to pay tribute to Ed and his family at 5:45 PM Thursday at the funeral home. They will then form outside of the funeral home on Center Street and will offer military honors immediately following the prayer service.
It is the wish of the family that in honor of Ed all memorial contributions be considered to the St. Johnsville American Legion Post, or to the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, of St. Johnsville. Envelopes will be available at The Enea Family Funeral Home.
Final interment in the family plot at St. Johnsville Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family. A very special thank you is extended to Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare as well as the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and to all family and friends for the kindness extended.
